Help Me Through Cataract Surgery Recovery – A Personal Appeal
Hi friends,
I’m reaching out with something personal and important.
I’m about to undergo cataract surgery, and while I’m grateful to have this chance to restore my vision, it comes with a big challenge: I won’t be able to work during recovery. The healing process takes 6 to 8 weeks, and with the risk of complications from weather, smoke, wind, and vehicle fumes, I’ve been advised to take recovery seriously — even if it means being off work for up to four months.
For those who don’t know me well: I work as a Big Issue vendor, which means I earn my income selling magazines in all sorts of weather. It’s a job I value because it gives me independence, dignity, and a connection to my community. But it’s not the kind of job that comes with sick pay — if I can’t be out there, I don’t earn.
I’m asking for support during this time so I don’t lose everything I’ve worked so hard to keep. My rent is £111.47 per week — a rare, affordable amount in this economy, and I can’t risk falling behind and losing my home due to a health issue I’m doing my best to manage.
How You Can Help
1. Financial Support
If you’re in a position to help, even a small donation would make a huge difference. Enough to cover my rent and basic costs while I recover would keep me afloat and safe.

2. Buy The Big Issue from Me — Digitally!
I’ve set myself up as a digital vendor with The Big Issue. You can still support me this way by buying your copy online — it’s easy and helps me keep some income coming in.

3. Share This Post
If you can’t help financially, I completely understand. But sharing this with others who might be able to support would mean the world to me.
4. Other Ideas? Let Me Know.
If you have suggestions for online work I can do while recovering, or other ways to raise money safely during this time, I’m open to all options that won’t interfere with my healing.
I don’t want to come out of this surgery only to find I’ve lost my job, my income, and my housing. With your support, I can take the time I need to heal — and come back stronger.
Thank you for reading, sharing, and supporting however you can.
With hope and gratitude,
[Raymond]
