Why I Bought 3 Metre USB-C Cables – And Why They're Staying Put.

When I ordered my new UGREEN charging setup, I also bought a pack of 3 metre USB-C to USB-C 100W cables.

At first, I wondered if they were too long.

Now that I've set everything up, I wouldn't go back to shorter cables.

The Problem with Short Cables

Most charging cables are only 1 metre long. That means you're usually forced to sit next to the wall socket while your device charges.

With a 3 metre cable, I can leave my 100W UGREEN charger on my wall unit and have the cable run neatly behind my chair.

The USB-C connector is tucked into the arm of my chair, ready whenever I need it.

A Permanent Charging Point

One thing I decided straight away was:

This cable is never moving.

People often wonder why charging cables fail. In my opinion, it's usually because they are:

  • Walked on.
  • Wrapped up and unwrapped every day.
  • Pulled in and out of bags.
  • Constantly plugged and unplugged.

Leaving the cable in one place avoids most of that wear and tear.

Tested with My Chromebook

I wanted to make sure the cable wasn't just long—it also had to work properly.

I tested it with my Chromebook, and it negotiated full USB Power Delivery with no "low-power charger" warning.

That confirmed the cable supports the charging speeds I wanted.

Worth the Extra Length?

For me, absolutely.

The cable now reaches exactly where I sit without trailing across the room, and I can comfortably use my Chromebook or charge my phone without rearranging furniture.

Sometimes paying a little extra for a longer cable makes everyday life much easier.
